The US Air Force KC-Y program is aimed at delivering a follow-up tanker aircraft due to low performance of the KC-X/KC-46A tanker aircraft. The program was launched in June 2021 with Boeing and Lockheed Martin expected to become the only bidders. The US Air Force plans call for the procurement for up to 160 tankers beginning in 2029.
